Don’t need saving: Ch. 7

  “Nice to see you again.”
“I’m glad you’re still around.” Fionna replied as she leaned against the wall next to the man that had given her the leads last time. “Do you still have the stuff?”
The guy laughed, “Of course I still have the stuff.”
Fionna smiled with relief, “When can I see it?”
The guy pretended to think. “How about tonight?”
Fionna yelled with excitement on the inside, but managed a nonchalant: “Whatever.”
The man smiled exposing horribly jagged, yellow teeth, “Met me outback in an hour.” He said causing shivers down Fionna’s back.
“Later.” She said moving away from the man. A tiny smile tugging at her lips, she was so close to finding Gumball’s things. She could feel it in the bottom of her gut. Looking for Gumball she wanted to give him the good news as well as take him home so she could return in time to meet up with the man. But she stopped once she found him. She watched just how happy he looked while dancing with the bluish grey Demon girl.
She sighed sadly, she didn’t want to go ruin his fun.
What was she going to do then? She was not going to miss this chance in a lifetime to find those objects. It had taken her longer than preferred to even get leads and when she had, she had gotten her leg broken. But then again, she didn’t want to ruin this for Gumball. This could be his one and only fling. And not to mention this could get her out of that bet she had made with him about marrying him. So with a dissatisfied sigh she leaned against the wall and watched; she didn’t want anything or anyone ruining this magical time with Gumball and his new friend.
“Seems to me your boyfriend just found himself another girl.” Came a laughing tone at her ear.
She closed and rolled her eyes, “This shouldn’t even be any of your business.” She opened them and wondered if he was following her. So she decided not to find out and just exit the club for some welcomed fresh air.
“You don’t really care for him do you.”
She closed her eyes once again; of course he followed her outside. “You might be seeing things. You should get your eyes checked.”
“What? You mean these?” She turned to look at him confused, but his eyes weren’t read anymore, but huge dark pits with only a tiny dot of red in the center. She flinched back which he laughed returning his eyes to normal. “Well you know, if I was dating you. I would never let you out of my sight.”
She felt a shiver down her back as well as felt the heat rising up her neck to her hairline. “Well you’re not him.” She was about to storm home when she remembered about Gumball and mentally smacked her palm to her face.
He laughed, “Were you just about to leave?”
His voice only made her blush even more.  Which only made her angry. Why was she so angry with him? He didn’t even do anything to her. “That is none of your business.” She said with not enough intensity as she meant to have.
  He laughed even more.
She bites her lip. She was angry, but not really at him. She was angry at herself. She had secretly wanted to talk to him…talk to him with her true identity, not with that stupid persona she had made. Yet, just the thought of him near her made her feel strange and confused and with confusion came fear of the unknown.
  Which brought out her anger.
“I don’t understand why you’re so angry with me. What did I do to you?” He asked, all playfulness gone.
Surprised by his outburst she felt bad, but she had a persona to keep. “Maybe ‘cause you’re following me like a crazy stalker.”
“If only you knew.” He mumbled to himself.

“What?” She wasn’t sure she caught that.
He started fumbling for words, “I-um, nothing. You seem like you’re a rad chick and all I wanted to do was get to know you.” Is that really such a bad thing?”
She felt tired all of a sudden. She had wanted to get to know him once too, “You…” she closed her eyes and placed her palm on her temple, “You want to get to know me? Why?” She asked. She couldn’t fathom why he wanted to get to know her now, when she had tried the first time they had met and he had completely blown her off.
“I just told you, you seem pretty cool.”
“Really?” She asked, ‘Even though I’ve been so mean to you?’ her mind whispered.
“Yeah,” he winked at her seductively.
She blushed, “I…I don’t think you’ll like the real me.” She mumbled, looking at the ground. “I’m too boring.” She said sadly, even if she did have a persona. He was flirting with IT, not her really. So she didn’t stand a chance either way.
“The real you? What do you mean?” He asked confused.
She had said too much. “No-nothing.” She sighed, “Excuse me, but I have to get going.” She had to get away from him or she was going to let other things slip. And then she would be caught in a huge lie and she didn’t need that right now. She needed to finish her mission first.
  “Were too?”
“I—” She stopped, “None of your business.” She continued on her way, trying hard to ignore him and the feelings that came with him.
“Ow!” she heard a very loud and hurt cry.
She turned around and found Marshall holding onto someone. Her heroine instincts kicked in and she rushed back. “What are you doing?”
Marshall only smiled, showing off his gleaming fangs. He had opened his mouth to say something when the guy she was holding spoke up. “Your jerk boyfriend is hurting me and doesn’t want to let me go.”
Fionna placed her hands on her waist and stared angrily at the man, “That jerk isn’t my boyfriend.”
Marshall made a funny face, before replying. “Oh thank you for that.” His voice sounded like he was hurt, but she knew he was only pretending when she saw a faint smile tugging at the corners. He let go of the creature, but his seriousness returned, “He had been spying on us. So I just wanted to teach him a lesson about what curiosity does to a cat.”
Oh well in that case, “Do whatever you want, for all I care.” Fionna said as she entered the club. She headed directly to the bar and wondered what she was going to do now.
“You know all this chase is making hungry.” His seductive voice said at her ear, creating goosebumps down her neck. She closed her eyes and managed to stop a shiver.
  “And you’re telling me, why?”
He slowly ran his fingertip lightly over the side of her neck, “Because you have a lot of what I am looking for.”
She faced him, trying on her best poker face, “Too bad.”
He pouted, “Why are you so mean to me?”
She sighed once again, something she’d been doing all night, “I don’t know.”
“Come with me.” He said taking her hand and leading her backstage, which she didn’t put up much resistance.
  “Why are you…?”
“Look it’s for privacy.” He entered the room and pulled her in after him. “I know you probably don’t like me for whatever I must have done, but I’m trying to be nice.”
She narrowed her eyes, “why are you trying in the first place.”
He shrugged gloating on top of a red sofa. His face thoughtful for once, “I don’t know really. To be honest ever since I met you you’ve been on my mind.” He shrugged, “I know you might not believe me since I was pretty mean that first night, but I had just broken up with someone so I was just…trying to make others miserable like I was feeling. I was pretty high strung, but then I saw you again and I just had to talk to you again.” He finally looked her and seemed to realize what he had just said and laughed awkwardly.
Sitting down on the actual sofa, Fionna couldn’t believe that he for once had been honest with her and that she too had felt the same way. That was why she had come back the next day to the club without Cake.
“I just had to get to know you better.” He said as he sat on the sofa next to her.
She looked down at her hands on her lap, “You don’t want to know me.” She whispered, “I am a liar and a fake.”
He surprised her again by replying truthfully. “We are all liars. We pretend something that we are not in order to be accepted and not be judged.”
Looking up at him she smiled shyly, “Why do you pretend?” she asked unexpectedly, surprising both.
And before he knew it he was answering her wholeheartedly. “Everyone has an image.” He started, “And when they see just how nice you are, people take advantage. They can’t just leave you alone. They hurt you if you’re too nice.” He paused, he’d been lost in his thoughts, probably thinking about his past and it seemed like a big deal. “So it’s best to…be the bad guy than the good one.”
“I don’t believe that.” She saw as his eyes widened in surprise as he realized she was still there.
  “What don’t you believe?”
“I don’t believe it’s best to be bad.” He looked at her and she sadly looked down at her hands that she had folded together. She felt her eyes become watery as she looked at his face. He actually believed what he said and it made her sad. “Sometimes…all you need is strength.” She started slowly. “Strength to push forward through all the negative things that try to break us; It is much easier to just give in and follow the crowd.” She tried to smile, “But it is so much more rewarding when you fight through and stay strong. You find yourself during those trails.”

He gawked at her and thought, ‘Wow she is really wise for her years.’
She blushed for a moment and once again looked down at her hands. “I’m sorry.” She said shyly, “I didn’t mean to—” She came to a stop when he took her hand without thinking and rejoiced on the warmness of her tiny hand.
“Don’t apologize.” He whispered, his face moving closer to hers. She glanced from their hands to his face; her eyes shining with a beautiful light. It almost looked as if her eyes were shining stars in the sky. “You look beautiful.”
He heard her gasp and he noticed her eyes water before she looked away, “I have to go.” She pulled her hand away and stood up immediately causing her to stumble a bit. He caught her quickly by the waist and pulled her toward his chest.
She placed her hands on his chest after not knowing where to put them. “Are you alright?” he asked, but he wasn’t there anymore. He was taken back in time to a similar situation.

Back in Time

“…So you’re telling me that you don’t like what I do?” She asked while taking off her Princess dress to reveal a black skin-tight ninja outfit that came with a mask to hide her face.
“I didn’t say that I didn’t like what you do…I just don’t want you to get hurt.” Marshall muttered while pouting.
“So you want me to just sit back and not fight for what I think is right?”
Marshall shrugged, “I just think a Princess like you should really be protected, not out there fighting and risking her life.”
Placing her fist on her waist she glared daggers at him, “You know if you can’t accept me or everything that I am then—”
“I accept you the way you are. That is why I love you so much…but it doesn’t mean I do not worry for your safety all the time you’re sneaking out of your castle to those mutant infested crumbles of the world.”
She placed her hands on each side of his face. Her giant grey doe eyes looking at him with such fierce love that he stopped worrying. She had a way about her that calmed him immediately, “I know you worry, but I can’t just sit back and do nothing. I know it’s easiest to just go with the flow and just sit back and be part of the crowd. But it’s more rewarding to know you’re helping to make a better future.” She paused hesitantly, “Don’t you want a better future? Like something along the lines of those old human books we have read?”
He nodded, “Of course I want that. Especially if that future means I’ll be by your side.”
Smiling hugely she kissed him deeply. “I want that so much! I want future generations to be able to live without the fear we live in today.”
“Future generations?” he repeated what she had said only because her voice had changed while saying it. He looked at her and her creamy ivory skin blushed brightly.
She looked shyly at his chest while making circles with her fingers on his chest. “Well…yeah…our children-I mean everyone else’s children- not just our own-will be our future.” She said in a rush as she spoke her face getting even redder.
“Our children?” He swallowed nervously at the thought of kids. But he had to admit he like the thought of having children with her and he smiled.
“Maybe not yours and mine exactly—I mean—”
He growled as he held her tighter against him, “They better be yours and mine.”  He buried his face in her hair that was so golden it was almost white. “You will not have anyone else’s babies but mine, you hear?”
He heard her sigh as she placed her hands on his chest to crane her head back to get a better look at him. “I hear you Marshall…I love you.” She rested her head on his chest and sighed contently.
“I love you more my Princess Adira.”

Present

Feeling her face grow hot she looked up to lock eyes with red ones and for the first time they weren’t full of mischief flintiness or even pain; they were full of concern and something else that made her knees tremble.
“I’m fine.” She managed to breathe out. She felt his hard chest under her palms and she pulled away immediately.
“Are you sure?” He asked concerned.
“Yeah. Yeah…fine. Fine.” She retreated a couple steps as she spoke. She was leaving no matter what. So after searching for the door and heading for the dance floor to look for Gumball, she had to basically rip him and the demon girl apart. Before exiting the club she glanced back and she saw the night club and its people. She saw the girl Gumball had been dancing with look sad, but when she caught Fionna’s eyes she shot daggers at her. If looks could kill, she’d be dead.
But Fionna was too preoccupied to even care about the girl’s daggers. “But Fionna, I want to stay.” Gumball pleaded like a child.
“We don’t have time. You’ll see her soon.” Fionna dragged the prince behind her.
“Can we come back again tomorrow?”
“I don’t know, maybe.” She replied frustrated.
“I hope it’s a yes.” He replied in a dreamy voice.
Fionna stopped completely, and turned to look at the Prince. He didn’t even seem to be there. His eyes were glazed over and there was a dumb smile on his face. He was really hit hard for a person that didn’t love like other people.
Sighing she started walking again, slower this time. “Oh Gumball.” She said, but he didn’t even seem to have heard her. Ignoring this she managed to get the Prince home and decided to head back and continue her mission.
